Refugee Passport

Do you live in Leudal, have a type III or IV residence permit and want to go abroad? Then you can apply for a refugee passport if you do not have a passport from your home country.

How does it work?

You can apply for a refugee passport if you:

  • Are in possession of residence permit III or IV or V;
  • do not have a passport from your country of origin;
  • lives in the Netherlands, but you do not have Dutch nationality;
  • Is registered with the municipality where you are applying for the passport.

Children with a residence permit need their own refugee passport. Written permission from parents or a guardian is required to apply for it.

Cost

The cost for a refugee passport is €65.70.
A surcharge for an urgent application costs €59.10.

What do I need

  • Your residence document
  • Your home country's passport and your old refugee passport. Even if they are no longer valid.
  • A recent passport photo, no older than 6 months that meets the passport photo requirements. School photographs are not appropriate and will not be accepted
  • Debit card or cash: you pay the fee at the time of application

Validity

How long your refugee passport is valid depends on the length of your residence permit. At most, your refugee passport is valid for 5 years.

Lost or stolen

Has your refugee passport been lost or stolen? If so, report this to the municipality as soon as possible. To do so, use the digital form"Declaration of missing identity documents". You do not have to report it to the police. Then you can immediately apply for your new refugee passport. Do you find your refugee passport? Then hand it in to the municipality, as this passport is no longer valid.

Alien passport and refugee passport

If you have a valid residence permit, but not (yet) the Dutch nationality, you can apply for a foreigner or refugee passport at the municipality. These passports allow you to travel to all countries except your country of origin. Which passport you apply for depends on your status. Do you have refugee status? Then apply for a refugee passport. Do you have no refugee status? Then you apply for a foreigner's passport
