Elections City Council 2026

Voting Guide:
The party leadership has decided not to participate in a voting or election guide. You can find the party platforms of the participating parties on their respective websites.

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, municipal elections will be held again in the Netherlands. During these elections, residents will choose who will sit on the municipal council. The municipal council decides on important matters in the municipality, such as housing, Health, work, traffic, and sports.

Everyone aged 18 and older who lives in the municipality and is eligible to vote will receive a voting pass at home. With this voting pass you can go to a polling station on election day. There you will hand in your voting card and receive a ballot paper. You fill this out with a red pencil.

It is important to vote. This way you can let people know what you think is important for your neighborhood and your community.

You vote for a candidate from a party of your choice.

Blank votes

You can also cast a blank vote, which is permitted by law. In that case, you do not fill in anything on the ballot paper, but you do deposit the ballot paper in the ballot box. A blank vote has no influence on the distribution of seats, but it does affect the turnout percentage. In this way, you exercise your right to vote and your involvement in democracy without expressing a preference for a specific party or candidate.
