City Council

The municipal council is the highest governing body of a municipality. Every four years, the municipal council is elected by residents. 

The last municipal elections were held in March 2022, which means there will be another municipal election soon. The number of municipal council members is related to the population. In Leudal, the municipal council consists of 25 council members, currently divided into six political groups. Mayor Désirée Schmalschläger chairs the council. Council member Patty Peeters-Severin is acting council president.

What does the city council do?

The council is elected by voting residents and thus represents the residents of Leudal municipality. The council is the highest governing body in the municipality. The council indicates the main lines of policy in the municipality and controls the mayor and aldermen. 

In council meetings, important issues are voted on; here every council member's vote counts equally. A majority is needed to make decisions. In addition to making decisions, the city council keeps an eye on the implementation of its decisions.
