How do I apply for and renew a driver's license?

You can make a Make an appointment appointment at the Municipality of Leudal to apply for or renew your driving license. It is also possible to apply for your new driving license online at the RDW.

Applying for a driver's license is by appointment only. You apply for and collect the license yourself. You pay the costs at the time of application. The driving license will be ready for you after 6 working days. You can pick up the license without an appointment at the reception desk. Have you just passed your driving test and want to do a first application? Then this can also be done without an appointment.

Renew your driver's license online through the website of the National Road Administration (RDW). Pick up your driver's license at City Hall.

When can I renew my driver's license online?

If you want to renew your driver's license online, you must meet a number of Requirements :

  • You hold a valid Dutch driver's license.
  • You want to renew your driver's license or you want to add a category to your license.
  • You have a cell phone with Android (version 6.0 or higher) or an iPhone (model 7 or higher and iOS version 13).
  • Your cell phone has an NFC reader. With Near Field Communication, you exchange data securely and quickly.
  • You have a DigiD app. To activate the app, you scan the chip on your Dutch identity document once. This can be your passport, identity card or driver's license. All driving licenses issued after November 2014 have a chip.
  • You have been medically examined, if required, and hold a certificate of fitness (VvG).

How can I renew my driver's license online?

Do you meet all the Requirements? Then arrange to renew your driver's license in 3 steps.

Step 1: have a passport photo taken
  • Have a passport photo taken at a photographer approved by the RDW. Take your driver's license with you to the photographer. A list of photographers in the municipality of Leudal who are approved is under the heading "Photographers approved by the RDW".
  • At the photographer, you will put your signature. This will be used on your new driver's license.
  • The photographer sends your passport photo and signature securely and digitally to the RDW. Within a few minutes you will receive an e-mail from the RDW. This states whether you may extend your driver's license online
Step 2: apply for your driver's license on the RDW website
  • Go to the RDW website and choose "apply for driver's license digitally.
  • Log in with the DigiD app. The DigiD website provides more information about the app.
  • After logging in, you'll be arranging to renew your driver's license within minutes.
  • You pay with iDEAL.

The RDW makes your driver's license. You will receive an e-mail from the RDW when your driver's license is ready at the municipality.

Step 3: Pick up your driver's license at the municipality of Leudal.

You do not need to make an appointment for this. Bring your current driver's license with you. You must turn it in. You will then receive your new driver's license.

Which photographers are approved by the RDW?

Have a passport photo taken at a photographer or photo booth approved by the RDW. In the municipality of Leudal are the following approved photographers:

  • Heythuysen - Fotostudio Bongers - Stationsstraat 11

You can also have a passport photo taken by an approved photographer in another municipality. On the RDW website there is a Map listing all approved photographers and photo booths.
 

What do I need?

Bring with you when applying for a driver's license:

  • A passport photo must not be older than 6 months and must meet the passport photo requirements
  • For initial application and missing: a valid ID or residence document
  • Debit card or cash: you pay the fee at the time of application
  • At renewal or category extension: your old driving license / moped license

Validity

A driver's license is valid for 10 years, except in the following situations:

  • driving license for truck or bus: valid for 5 years
  • You are between 65 and 70 years of age, driver's license valid until your 75th birthday
  • you are between 70 and 75 years of age, valid for 5 years
  • You are 75 years of age or older: up to 5 years (depending on medical examination)
  • In case of an obligation for medical examination in connection with illness: depending on examination

Health Statement

You need a Health Declaration from the CBR in the following cases:

  • renew driver's license at age 75 or older
  • For medical reasons (e.g., chronic illness)
  • for a driving license for categories C1, C, C1E, CE, D1, D, D1E and DE, also at renewal
  • when exchanging a driver's license from the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba or a country outside the European Union
  • for driving licenses for diplomatic officials and their family members
  • with your first driving license, this is arranged by your driving school

You can easily apply for the certificate online at the CBR website. Within 4 weeks at the latest, you will receive a response and can apply for the driving license at the municipality.

You can also request a Health Certificate by phone from the CBR via tel: 0900 - 0210, option 5. Have your citizen service number (BSN) at hand. After you have transferred the amount including postage to the CBR, the CBR will send the Health Declaration to you.

You can also buy a Health Declaration at the town hall. You do not need to make an appointment for this.

Medical examination for driver's license

A medical examination is required if:

  • your driver's license expires on or after your 75th birthday
  • You have a medical disability
  • you need a truck or bus driver's license (C, CE, D or DE). You cannot be examined by your primary care physician, go to an occupational health physician/registered occupational physician

Start the procedure on the CBR website. Do this at least 13 weeks before applying for or expiring your driver's license.

Waiver of driver's license?

Do you wish to relinquish one or more categories of driver's license?

Then apply for a new driver's license without the categories.

Don't you want to drive anymore?

You can simply let your license expire if you no longer want to drive.
You may not drive with an expired license, but there is no obligation to surrender the license.

You may also choose to relinquish your driver's license.

  • You call the municipality and make an appointment
  • You go to the municipality with your driver's license
  • You fill out a waiver at the municipality
  • You will receive confirmation from the municipality
  • Your driving license will be declared invalid. CBR will receive confirmation from the municipality within 7 working days
