Driving license lost or stolen
Is your driver's license lost or stolen in the Netherlands? You can report the loss of your driving license in two ways:
- You can report this with DigiD through the RDW website. This ensures that your missing driving license can no longer be misused. You will receive a letter confirming that your driving license is invalid. Then you apply for a new driving license at the municipality. You need to make an appointment for this . You then choose the missing driving license product.
- In addition, you can always go to the municipality to register the loss. This requires a personal visit.
Please note: you cannot apply for a new driving license immediately, unless it is an urgent application. In other cases, you must make an appointment to apply for your new license . You then choose the product Driving license with loss.
Is your Dutch driving license lost or stolen abroad? You have reported it missing to the local police abroad. You will be given a report card. You can Make an appointment an appointment to apply for a new driving license at the municipality. You must then also fill in a declaration of loss.
Driver's license recovered
After applying for a new driver's license, do you still find the old one? Return your old driving license to the municipality. This is because it is no longer valid.
Loss of more identity documents
If you have lost three or more identity documents (passport, Map and/or driver's license) within five years, it may take longer to get a new document. A rush application is not possible in that case.
New driver's license
After the loss or theft of your driving license, you can choose between:
1. A driving license with the same expiration date as your old license. You then do not have to apply for a health certificate or undergo a medical examination;
2. A driving license with a later expiration date than your old license. Did your old license require a health certificate and a medical examination? Then so do you now.

DigiD login feature
Driving licenses applied for after Jan. 4, 2021 can be used to log in via DigiD. When you report a missing/theft, the login function for DigiD is also automatically blocked.
After receiving a new driver's license, you must reactivate the DigiD login function yourself.
