Planting day for participating farms in the Leudal municipality planting scheme
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, 15 estates in the municipality of Leudal will become greener, more biodiverse, and more climate-adaptive. A total of 153 trees, 307 fruit trees and fruit bushes, and 8,285 forest plants (for the belts and mixed hedges) will be planted.
One extra tree for every resident
Participants in the Planting Scheme first had to collect the planting material and could then immediately start planting. Various solitary trees and groups of trees, avenues, standard fruit trees, orchards, mixed hedges, and fruit hedges were planted. These green elements will soon embellish the local landscape and provide extra shelter, nesting opportunities, and food sources for a large number of animal species (such as birds, butterflies, and bees). In addition, extra trees are also being planted under this Planting Scheme. After all, the municipality of Leudal has the ambition to plant one extra tree for every resident by 2027. The municipality of Leudal is well on its way to achieving this goal with ease.
Municipality as guest
On Saturday morning, the municipality of Leudal visited the Winkelmolen family in Ell. Three generations of the family worked together to plant several rows of trees (including European white elm and small-leaved lime) and a canal bank (yellow dogwood, red dogwood, sporkewood, eared willow, and currant tree). Ron Janssen, designer of the various plans in the municipality of Leudal, was also present. Ron Janssen Erf- en Landschapsverfraaiing visits the participants in the Planting Scheme and together they draw up the designs, provide the planting and management instructions, and organize the planting days. In the spring of 2026, the participants who planted last Saturday will receive further management instructions for the maintenance of their green yards.
Planting scheme
Partly due to the large number of applications in recent years, the municipality of Leudal has extended the Planting Scheme until 2026. This Planting Scheme is very interesting for residents and farmers who would like to green their yard or plot in the outskirts of the municipality of Leudal, for example by planting a wooded bank, fruit orchard, or Limburg (mixed) hedge.
