2026 municipal council elections

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, municipal elections will be held again in the Netherlands.

During these elections, residents choose who will sit on the municipal council. The municipal council decides on important matters in the municipality, such as housing, Health, work, traffic, and sports.

Everyone aged 18 and older who lives in the municipality and is eligible to vote will receive a voting pass at home. With this voting pass you can go to a polling station on election day. There you will hand in your voting card and receive a ballot paper. You fill this out with a red pencil.

It is important to vote. This allows you to express what you consider important for your neighborhood and your municipality. You vote for a candidate from a party of your choice.

Everything you want to know about the elections can be found on the 2026 Municipal Council Elections page.
