Expansion of the power grid
We are using more and more energy. Demand for electricity is rising. This is partly because we are building more homes, large companies are moving to the Netherlands, industries are becoming increasingly electrified, and the use of electric vehicles is on the rise among businesses and households

In addition, more and more renewable energy is being generated by wind turbines and solar panels. This energy is often not used where it is generated and must be transported to other parts of the Netherlands.
To enable the transport of sustainable energy even during peak periods, adjustments to the current electricity grid are necessary. This will ensure that everyone in the Netherlands always has access to electricity. Thanks to these adjustments, we will be able to make better use of the existing electricity grid.
Projects
The following projects are currently underway or have already been completed:
- The existing high-voltage power line between Maasbracht and Eindhoven has been upgraded
- An additional high-voltage line between Maasbracht and Eindhoven
- Upgrade of the Maasbracht–Boxmeer–Dodewaard high-voltage transmission line
- Upgrade of the Buggenum–Kelpen-Oler–Nederweert high-voltage transmission line
- Upgrade of the Maasbracht–Buggenum high-voltage transmission line
- Upgrade of the high-voltage transmission line between Buggenum, Belfeld, Boekend, and Blerick
In addition, due to the energy transition, the current infrastructure must be adapted and its capacity expanded. This will require the following work:
- Expansion of high-voltage substations in:
- Kelpen-Oler
- Buggenum
- Replacing transformer stations
It is necessary to make adjustments at the neighborhood level as well. That is why new transformer stations are being installed at various locations in Leudal. As soon as more details about the locations and schedule are available, this information will be shared.
