Marriage/Registered partnership

Congratulations!!! You are getting married or entering into a civil partnership.

What is it?

You want to affirm your love for each other in front of each other and in front of the law. You can do that by getting married or by entering into a registered partnership. In Leudal you can easily arrange this online

You reserve the date, time, location and wedding officiant. The duration of a time block to be chosen is 1.5 hours. The ceremony starts immediately at the start of the time block. You do this up to 1 year before the marriage/registered partnership. The reservation of your intended marriage/registered partnership is not final until you have received a confirmation by mail from us after your online notification.

What to do

You report your intended marriage online to the registrar of births, marriages and deaths in the municipality where you are getting married. Do you both live outside the Netherlands and is at least one of you Dutch? Then the notification of your intended marriage must be made in The Hague. In the notification you specify a total of 2, 3 or 4 adults as witnesses.

Marriage or registered partnership, what's the difference?

Marriage or a registered partnership are similar forms of cohabitation. Requirements, costs and procedure are the same.

The main differences between marriage and registered partnership:

  • In a marriage, you say yes to each other. With a registered partnership, you don't necessarily have to.
  • To end a marriage, you always have to go to court. With a registered partnership, you do not have to go to court if you are in agreement and have no minor children.

A detailed explanation of the differences can be found on the Rijksoverheid website.
