Subsidy scheme for demolition of former industrial buildings
Leudal is taking an important step towards becoming a more attractive and safer municipality. With the "Subsidy scheme for the demolition of former industrial buildings," the municipality is helping owners to remove vacant, dilapidated, or unsafe former industrial buildings. In this way, the municipality wants to work together to create a livable environment, with more space and quality in the landscape.

In some places in the municipality of Leudal, former commercial buildings stand empty. These are often agricultural businesses that have ceased trading, but whose barns are still standing. This sometimes leads to decay, unsafe use, or disfigurement of the landscape. Because demolition is not financially feasible for many owners, the municipality is now introducing a scheme to make it more attractive to remove old buildings.
Making room for the future
Alderman Michel Graef:
With this scheme, we are working together to make room for the future. By removing vacant buildings, we are improving the quality of our living environment and preventing unsafe situations. This subsidy scheme enables us to invest in a cleaner, safer, and more attractive Leudal.
What the scheme offers
The scheme provides owners with a subsidy per square meter of building and per square meter of pavement that is demolished. A maximum of €50,000 applies per location. The subsidy can be applied for various types of former commercial buildings. This applies not only to agricultural buildings, but also to offices, shops, and catering establishments. Furthermore, the scheme applies not only to rural areas, but also to locations in or on the outskirts of urban centers. A condition for receiving the subsidy is that the buildings are permanently demolished and that no new developments are planned or underway at the location.
Subsidy ceiling and applications
The scheme will come into effect on January 1, 2026. The subsidy ceiling for 2026 has been set at €200,000. This amount will be reviewed annually, depending on interest. Owners who are considering demolishing outdated or vacant commercial buildings can find more information about the Requirements the application process on the Leudal municipality website.
