Principle cooperation in the redevelopment of the Strikkenhof national monument
The Municipal Executive has granted approval in principle for the redevelopment of the Strikkenhof national monument. This plan will give the historic farmhouse a new future, preserving its historical value while creating space for a small-scale residential development.

The plan focuses entirely on enhancing the monumental quality of the farmhouse. Five homes will be built in the existing buildings. Other buildings on the plot that have no historical value will be demolished. The monumental bakehouse will be preserved and restored.
Heritage and sustainability go hand in hand
Alderman Michel Graef:
Strikkenhof is a place with a rich history. It is good to see that this history is being preserved, while we are also making future-proof living possible. This development shows that heritage and sustainability can go hand in hand. We are proud that, together with committed partners, we are able to breathe new life into this valuable location.
New construction as reinforcement of the whole
To enhance the development, the old horse stable at the rear of the site will be demolished. A barn house will be built on this site, in keeping with the rural character of Nunhem. In addition, covered parking spaces will be created on the site, designed as a barn, so that they blend in nicely with the yard.
Consultancy process involved
The plan has been discussed extensively in recent months with:
- the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE)
- the Advisory Committee on the Physical Environment
- the Province of Limburg
The advice received has been positive and the development will create a good residential and living environment, which means that the council is now, in principle, willing to cooperate.
