The international Paris Climate Accord states that all member countries will try to limit global warming to max. 2 degrees Celsius, and preferably max. 1.5 degrees Celsius. This also forms the basis for the Dutch Climate Agreement, which states that by 2030 49% less, and by 2050 95% lessCO2 will be emitted compared to 1990.

Therefore, 15 regions in the Netherlands have been designated to develop a strategy to meet these requirements. A Regional Energy Strategy (RES) is also being developed in the North and Central Limburg Region, to which Leudal belongs.

The role of this RES is actually fourfold: it needs a plan to generate renewable energy on a large scale, it needs to figure out how best to store and transport energy, it needs a heat strategy that maps out how to get rid of natural gas by 2050 at the latest, and it needs a plan to make the built environment more energy efficient on a large scale.

The municipality of Leudal must also give substance to these four aspects. Below you can read more about our vision on these policy themes and about the RES North and Central Limburg.
