Modification of the parking facility layout on Sportlaan in Grathem

The municipality of Leudal will be making changes to the layout of the public space on Sportlaan in Grathem. This work will be coordinated with the implementation of the CPO Grasheim Grathem project so that the work can be carried out efficiently and disruption to the surrounding area is minimized as much as possible.

In the past, perpendicular parking spaces were created on Sportlaan to serve the adjacent sports field. However, due to the change in land use for this area and the development of residential housing, the original parking demand has decreased. As a result, the existing parking spaces are no longer necessary in their current capacity.

At the same time, there is still a need for parking at this location for visitors and local residents. To address this, the municipality has opted for a redesign in which the existing perpendicular parking spaces will be replaced by a smaller number of parallel parking spaces.
In addition, this redesign aligns with the municipality’s goal of further greening public spaces. Removing part of the paved surface creates space for additional greenery, which contributes to a more attractive living environment, improved water infiltration, and a more climate-resilient design of public spaces.

Measures

  • Remove the existing perpendicular parking spaces;
  • Construct new parallel parking spaces;
  • To landscape the vacated space with woodland plantings and other greenery;
  • This work is to be carried out following the completion of the CPO Grasheim Grathem project.

This change will create a greener and more visually appealing street, while maintaining sufficient parking for people in the area. The reduction in paved surfaces and the addition of greenery will contribute to a more pleasant living environment. In addition, the new design will create a calmer streetscape and further improve the quality of the public space.

Work on Sportlaan is scheduled to begin immediately after the completion of work on the CPO Grasheim Grathem project. Preparations for this have begun, and the schedule has been adjusted accordingly. By carrying out both projects consecutively, the work can be organized efficiently, and disruption to the surrounding area will be minimized as much as possible.
Although the work has been carefully planned, unforeseen circumstances during the course of the project may affect the exact start date.
