Self-reliance (own strength)

In the Wmo, self-reliance is increasingly important. There is a greater reliance on what a person can still do themselves, or what the environment can contribute.

Own strength is the ability of residents to do what is needed in daily life, without permanent help from others or facilities. It involves residents solving problems themselves, through informal care or through friends, family or acquaintances.

The municipality must offer residents appropriate support with daily tasks and household chores, if someone is not (entirely) able to do so themselves. A resident can then first turn to a general facility (available to everyone), and if necessary, then to a customized facility (help for a resident's special need).
