Alderman Teuling is handing out flower seeds!

Yesterday, Alderman Teuling handed out flower seeds to the enthusiastic participants in the Flower- and Herb-Rich Field Edges and Corners program.

In addition to the flower seeds, participants also received sowing instructions and an overview of the composition of the flower mixtures. A total of 36 participants are taking part this year, and more than 54,000 m² will be sown with a flower mixture. The locations to be sown are nicely spread across the municipality.

Alderman Teuling:

This wonderful initiative contributes to the ambitions of the municipality of Leudal to increase biodiversity and make the municipality greener. Residents and tourists will soon be able to enjoy beautiful flower-filled field margins in the countryside again. In addition, sowing these flower mixtures will also significantly increase the habitat of various species of insects and birds. We will consider whether we can continue the scheme in the coming years. I wish all participants every success with sowing the various flower mixtures!

This project contributes to biodiversity in our municipality, and the flower mixtures consist of native species. There were four types of flower mixtures available. A one-year or multi-year bee and butterfly mixture, a one-year bird mixture, or a multi-year winter food mixture. Native flowers and herbs are very important for insects, such as solitary bees and butterflies. In addition, the winter food mixture also provides food, shelter, and wintering opportunities for birds and insects. The flower mixtures are supplied by Pelgrum Vink Materialen B.V. (PVM), which specializes in supplying wildflower and herb mixtures, wild field mixtures, and tree seeds, among other things.

With this scheme, Flower- and herb-rich field margins and corners, we are making the municipality of Leudal even more attractive and biodiverse!
