Construction of driveway or entryway
What is it?
If you want to build an entrance or exit to your property or change an existing entrance that opens onto a municipal road, you must report this to the municipality. If you want to build a driveway that opens onto a provincial road, you must apply for an environmental permit.

How does it work?
You can fill out a notification form. The municipality will then assess whether you may build the entrance or exit driveway.
The notification is not accepted as the construction of the driveway:
- endangers road traffic;
- without necessity at the expense of public parking;
- Impairs public green space in an unacceptable manner, or
- occurs on a parcel already accessed by another driveway and the construction of this 2nd driveway will be at the expense of a public parking space or public green space.
If a notification is not accepted, you will be notified within a maximum of 4 weeks. If the notification is accepted, you will receive a quote from the municipality within 8 weeks. If you agree with the offer, you will instruct the municipality to build the driveway according to the applicable requirements.
What do I need?
A situation sketch where you would like to construct the entrance or exit. This may also be a photograph in which you have drawn the location.If you cannot scan the sketch, you may also take a digital photograph.
What does it cost?
The notification is free of charge. The cost of constructing the driveway to the public road is borne by the notifier. The amount of the costs depends on the situation. For example, if a street gully or light pole needs to be removed, this will result in additional work and therefore additional costs.
How long does it take?
If you agree to the quote you receive from the municipality, the municipality will arrange for the driveway to be constructed. This normally happens within 4 weeks.
