Transportation of hazardous materials
What is it?
- It is prohibited to transport, load or unload hazardous materials in the municipality.
- A number of hazardous substances are subject to mandatory routes in the Netherlands . Some municipalities and provinces indicate the mandatory route with road signs. Information about these routes can be obtained from the municipal or regional fire department.
- If you want to deviate from the mandatory route within the municipality, for example to load or unload, you must apply for an exemption from the municipality.
What to do.
You request the waiver from the municipality. Please provide the following information with your application:
- the substances you wish to transport and in what quantities
- the loading or unloading area in the municipality
- the desired route
- the time of transportation
- the name of your company
- approval of the vehicle by the National Road Administration (RDW)
- your license and driver certification to transport hazardous materials
Additional information
- In slippery or dense fog, do not transport hazardous materials.
- If these circumstances persist for a long time, and if you can prove that the transport is urgent, you can get an exemption from this transport ban.
- You apply for the hazardous materials transport exemption from the Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport.
