Demolition notification

What is it?

Anyone wishing to demolish or dismantle all or part of a structure is subject to duties and general state rules for carrying out demolition activities. The rules of a demolition activity are explained on IPLO's website

How does it work?

Sometimes there is a notification requirement for demolition or a permit requirement. More information on this can be found on the IPLO | Notification requirement for demolition activity website.

If a demolition notification is required, an information requirement also applies. More information on this can be found on the IPLO | Information duty for demolition activities website.

Sometimes an asbestos inventory report is also required. More information on this can be found on the IPLO | Asbestos Inventory Obligation website.

Permit requirement?

Does the site have demolition rules in the environmental plan, for example, because of a protected townscape? Or is the part/building to be demolished a protected municipal monument or national monument? If so, you may need an environmental permit. Do you have any questions about this? If so, contact the environment desk by calling (0475) 85 9000

Neighbors

If you plan to demolish, it is wise to discuss it with your neighbors first. Potential problems can then be discussed in advance. This can prevent problems afterwards.

What does it cost?

A demolition notification is free of charge.

An environmental permit for demolition does incur costs. You can read more about this in the fees regulation
