By signing this agreement, the municipalities confirm their commitment to promoting and strengthening sports and physical activity for all residents.
Shared goals for a healthy and active region
In the administrative agreement adopted in October 2025, the municipalities set out six regional goals. These goals form the basis for a joint approach to making sports and physical activity more accessible, safer, and future-proof. They are:
- Inclusion and Diversity
- A socially safe and healthy sports environment
- Vital and future-proof sports providers
- Skilled in physical activity, with a focus on youth and education
- Enough space for sports and physical activity in the local community
- Harnessing the social value of elite sports
With support from the Province of Limburg, these goals are being translated into concrete projects and initiatives that contribute to health, participation, and social cohesion.
Central Limburg as a pioneer
Central Limburg is the first region in Limburg to jointly sign the regional Sports and Physical Activity Agreement and submit an application to the province. In doing so, the region is demonstrating its commitment to leveraging the power of collaboration to sustainably strengthen the sports and physical activity landscape.
With this agreement, our region is taking an important step toward a stronger and more forward-looking environment for sports and physical activity. Sports and physical activity contribute to health, social interaction, and a sense of community. By collaborating at the regional level, we can achieve more for our residents and our organizations. It’s great that we in Central Limburg are taking the lead on this,
according to the sports councilors of Midden-Limburg.
