Air Quality Monitoring Program

The Haelen Village Council, the Sustainable Zevenellen Foundation, Zevenellen the municipality of Leudal have drafted a monitoring program to measure air quality in the Zevenellen area.

Part of that monitoring program is the deployment of the mobile monitoring vehicle (MOL) operated by the South Limburg Environmental Agency in consultation with the Province of Limburg. The mobile monitoring vehicle will be stationed in the parking lot near the church in Buggenum in the coming days.

Mobile measurement vehicle

The mobile monitoring vehicle can best be compared to a laboratory on wheels that takes an “air sample.” Just as a laboratory can analyze blood for various substances, the monitoring vehicle can analyze outdoor air for various pollutants. This monitoring vehicle belongs to the South Limburg Environmental Agency and is often deployed when there are concerns about a business or following an incident. At Zevenellen , we Zevenellen this monitoring vehicle to assess current air quality prior to companies setting up operations at Zevenellen. The plan is to repeat this process once companies have established themselves in the business park. The deployment of the mobile monitoring vehicle was made possible thanks to the support and co-funding of the Province of Limburg.

Volatile Organic Compounds

The monitoring vehicle measures Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs are carbon-containing substances that evaporate easily and are therefore released into the air. Examples include solvents, fuels, paint, cleaning products, and emissions from industry and traffic. The monitoring vehicle can measure on-site which substances are present in the air and in what quantities. The measurements help address questions and concerns about air quality with objective data.

Particulate Matter

A sensor for measuring PM2.5 particulate matter will also be added to the monitoring vehicle. Particulate matter is a general term for microscopic particles in the air. A PM2.5 sensor measures particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers. These particles are so small that they can penetrate deep into the lungs and be harmful to health. These particulate matter measurements in Buggenum are immediately visible to everyone via the website https://ohnics.nl

Take a look inside the test vehicle

Are you curious about how the measurement truck works? You’ll have the opportunity to visit the measurement truck on Monday, June 22, 2026, until 3:00 p.m. More information will be available in the coming days on the websites of the Haelen Village Council, the Buggenum Village Council, the Sustainable Zevenellen Foundation, Zevenellen the municipality.

Other measuring equipment

The use of the mobile measurement vehicle is just one part of the working group’s measurement program. Other measurement equipment planned for use includes e-noses and sensors for measuring particulate matter and NOx. These measurements are expected to begin in the fall of 2026, complementing the Grenzeloos Meten 2.0 project.
