Measures Due to Heat

Due to the ongoing heat, various measures are being taken. We’ve also included a few tips on how to cope with extreme temperatures. Read more about this below.

What to Do in Hot Weather?

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Stay cool and stay out of the sun. Limit strenuous activity. A cooling foot bath can also help.
  • Keep your home as cool as possible.
  • Be careful with medications: the dosage of some medications needs to be adjusted in hot weather.
  • Look out for one another. Be mindful of the people around you: the elderly, (young) children, and animals as well.

Spreading salt on roads

Due to the extreme temperatures, salt is being spread as a preventive measure on the main traffic routes. At these temperatures, asphalt is softer and more susceptible to deformation. Salt helps to lower the temperature of the asphalt. The asphalt then cools slightly, reducing the risk of deformation. In addition, crushed sand is being spread at a few locations. This is done primarily in areas where the heat is causing bitumen to rise to the surface. All of these measures contribute to traffic safety and mobility, even during extreme temperatures.
