Limburg Liveability Approach launched

Today, three subsidy schemes intended for initiatives in the field of livability are opened: one for small-scale (residents') initiatives, one for initiatives by associations, foundations and cooperatives and one for area-oriented public initiatives. This launches the Limburg Liveability Approach.

Livability Planting a kitchen garden

Projects, such as creating a playing field, vegetable garden or building a neighborhood kitchen are eligible for this grant, as well as the cooking workshop given at the neighborhood kitchen.

Michael Theuns, representative of the Province of Limburg: "With these schemes, we want to encourage as many people as possible to come up with initiatives that contribute to the quality of life in their street or neighborhood. Because it is the inhabitants who know what is needed, not the authorities. Let's work together to ensure that the quality of life in our Limburg cities and villages is maintained and even improved."

The grant schemes

Small-scale (resident) initiatives

This regulation enables (a number of) citizens to take ownership of the liveability of their street or neighborhood. After all, one of the principles of the Livability Approach is that citizens themselves know best what is needed in their neighborhood. This could include sowing flowers, furniture in public areas and sports and play elements, with the subsidy amount being between €2,500 and €5,000.

Initiatives associations, foundations and corporations

Livability cannot exist without social interaction. Cities and villages often have multiple associations, foundations and cooperatives that contribute greatly to organizing, maintaining and strengthening the social fabric. They have a home base in community facilities and meeting places. Think of initiatives, such as a community garden, setting up a repair cafe or cooking workshops for families in need of money. The grant amount is between €5,000 - €120,000.

Every Limburger counts

Quality of life is a central theme in the coalition agreement 'Every Limburger Counts'. It is important that, as a government, we stand in the middle of society and examine for each area what is needed to maintain and even improve livability.
