National Approach to Address Quality

The correct residential address is very important. All government services use the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP), which the municipality maintains, for this purpose. Health, education, police, fire department, social services, taxes: everywhere your address plays a decisive role.

For proper address verification, the municipality of Leudal cooperates with the National Approach to Address Quality. Through this cooperation, public services pass on their doubts about the occupancy of an address to the municipality. If there is sufficient doubt, an investigation follows, because with an incorrect residential address in the BRP , address fraud is possible, or abuse of benefits, or evasion of (tax) debts and fines. Furthermore, we cannot reach people who need Health or (debt) assistance without a proper address.

Such an address search can also consist of a home visit. In order to inconvenience as few residents as possible with this, it is done only in case of serious doubt. The search complies with privacy protection rules and the investigators must identify themselves.

So it is possible that your address will be investigated. This does not always mean that the municipality suspects fraud. Often it is a misunderstanding or a forgotten change of address. If the investigation shows that correction of the BRP is necessary, the municipality will notify the residents. If there is sufficient evidence, the municipality is authorized and obliged to change that registration, if necessary without the consent of those involved. This may affect allowances, benefits and other arrangements.

By law, everyone is responsible for correct registration in the BRP: anyone moving house must report this promptly to the municipality. Check yourself whether you are properly registered on MijnOverheid.nl, by logging in with your DigiD. You can pass on corrections to your municipality. Are you a victim of address abuse? Then ask for an address investigation.
