Voter ID: Voting in other municipality

Want to cast your vote in another municipality?
Apply for a voter ID card!

What is a voter ID card?

Your voter card allows you to cast your vote at any polling place in your municipality. A voter card replaces your voting pass. With a voter card, you can cast your vote at any polling station in the Netherlands during the Lower House Election.

How do you apply for a voter ID card?

  • Written request
You can request a voter card in writing(model form K6). You must submit this request to the municipality where you are registered in the Basic Registration of Persons on the day of the nomination of candidates (September 15, 2025). The request must be received by the municipality no later than Friday, October 24, 2025. Have you already received a voting pass? Send it along with the request.
  • Oral request
You can also make an Make an appointment (as of October 1) at the civil affairs desk at City Hall. This can only be done after you have received your voting card. Report to your appointment with your voting pass and a valid ID. Again, make an appointment at the municipality where you are registered in the Basic Registration of Persons on September 15, 2025. You can make this request at the front desk until Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at noon.

A voter ID card cannot be replaced if lost.

If you are going to vote, in addition to the voter ID card, bring a valid identification document (that has not been expired for more than 5 years).

Voter ID and proxy

When someone casts a proxy vote for someone else it must always be done at the same time as casting their own vote.

Are you using a voter ID card to cast a proxy for someone with a voting ID card? Then you must cast both votes in the municipality where the proxy is to vote.

Do you cast a proxy for someone with a voter ID card? Then you can cast both votes in any municipality in the Netherlands.
