An additional €2 million requested for popular first-time homebuyer loans
The Mayor and Aldermen are proposing to the City Council that €2 million be allocated to provide additional first-time homebuyer loans. This will ensure that first-time homebuyers can continue to count on financial support when purchasing their first home in the coming years. Due to the high level of interest among first-time homebuyers, the available budget is being used up faster than expected.

Demand for first-time homebuyer loans in Leudal is higher than ever. As of September, 42 first-time homebuyer loans have been granted, and 12 applications are pending. That is already double the number from the entire previous year. To prevent the program from ending, additional funding is being requested from the city council. This would allow the first-time homebuyer loan program to remain available through 2028.
Quality of Life
Alderman Peter Francot (Housing):
The housing market is tough for first-time homebuyers. With a first-time homebuyer loan, we make just the difference for many young people, enabling them to buy their first home here in Leudal. We’d like to help young people—whether they grew up here or live elsewhere—move to our villages.
They are important to the future quality of life in our villages.
Local Housing Market
The municipality provides starter loans in collaboration with the Province of Limburg. A starter loan can be used to purchase homes priced up to €345,000. The starter loan itself amounts to a maximum of €56,000. The municipality and the province each pay half of that amount. Thanks to the provincial contribution, an additional investment of €2 million results in a total injection of €4 million into the local housing market. This will help approximately 75 first-time homebuyers.
Suitable housing
The first-time homebuyer loan aligns with the municipality’s goal of providing residents with suitable housing. Through this initiative, we are expanding opportunities for first-time homebuyers in the housing market. They are a crucial (and often final) link in the chain of home moves. When first-time homebuyers are able to purchase a home, other residents can also take the next step in their housing journey.
The proposal will be discussed by the city council at its meeting on December 8.
