Remembrance Day, May 4

On May 4, we traditionally commemorate those who lost their lives in World War II and in subsequent conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Memorial services will be held in five villages in the municipality of Leudal. 

Overview of commemorations

Buggenum

  • 6:45 p.m. Meet at the entrance to St. Aldegundis Church in Buggenum.
  • 7:00 p.m. After the church bells ring, there will be a short ceremony in the church, followed by a walk to the cemetery to commemorate the war victims.  

Haelen 

  • 7:40 p.m. Gathering at the former town hall.
  • 7:45 p.m. Silent procession to Haelen Cemetery.
  • 8:00 p.m. Commemoration with a 2-minute moment of silence

Heythuysen 

  • 7:00 p.m. Memorial service for war victims at St. Nicholas Church.
  • 7:35 p.m. Silent march to the peace monument on Stationsstraat.
  • 8:00 p.m. Commemoration ceremony at the monument.

Horn 

  • 7:15 p.m. Memorial service at Martinus Church
  • 7:48 p.m. After leaving the church, proceed in complete silence to the memorial site.

Hunsel 

  • 7:15 p.m. Gathering at the Jacobus De Meerdere Parish Church in Hunsel. Followed by a silent march to the
    monument on Kerkplein.
