Primary task of the fire department is to provide assistance in case of fires, accidents and emergencies; this assistance is always free of charge. It is also possible to call on the fire department to provide certain services (such as pumping out basements, cleaning roads). There may be a charge for this.
Risk map
The province of Limburg and the regional fire brigades, in cooperation with all Limburg municipalities, have conducted a study of the risks of activities involving hazardous substances in companies and during transport. The province has arranged for the results of the study to be made available to the public, municipalities, companies and the press not only in report form, but also in the form of a digital risk map.
The risk map shows risks related to accidents involving hazardous materials, tunnel accident, flood, wildfire, among others. A total of 13 types of risks are shown.
