Leaf litter

This season, the municipality of Leudal is also trying to minimize nuisance from leaf fall from municipal trees. In 2025 we will place about 200 leaf boxes in Leudal and at 6 locations we will place a larger facility with drang fences to dispose of municipal leaves. Some sports facilities will also be provided with leaf boxes.
The extent and distribution of leaf fall is highly dependent on tree species and weather conditions. By clearing leaf litter and placing leaf baskets, we try to minimize nuisance. At times, however, there may be some nuisance from leaf and fruit fall.
What does the congregation do:
Placing leaf baskets (week 42: from 13-10-2025)
We place the leaf boxes according to the drawings (see the drawings for each core under the heading Leaf boxes and cattle routes). There are also 6 locations where a large leaf location has been created with crowd barriers. The leaf boxes are intended for leaves from municipal trees, so no leaf waste, pruning waste, plant remains, plastic bags or household garbage. Because of the amount of leaf boxes, they are emptied on average once every 2 weeks. The leaf boxes are removed just before Christmas, when the deciduous trees are bare.
Deployment of external leaf vacuum cleaner
Leaf vacuuming with a specialized leaf vacuum in the cores on fixed routes is provided by an external company. It starts about mid-October and clears the leaves 1, 2 or 3 days (depending on the amount of leaf fall) per week. In hard-to-reach places (parking lots, road narrowing, obstacles and the like) the leaves are blown up the roadway with back-carried leaf blowers, so that the leaves can be carried away by the leaf vacuum cleaner.
Clean blowing bike lanes
In wooded areas, when there is a lot of leaf fall, a tractor with a leaf blower is used to keep bike paths clear of natural debris.
Sweepers RD Maasland
The sweepers of Reinigingsdienst Maasland frequently sweep during the period of leaf fall in streets where there are many municipal trees. Starting in mid-October, they adjust their sweeping schedule.
Leaf removal on municipal lawns
During leaf season, the contractor regularly clears leaves from municipal lawns. This is to prevent suffocation of the grass. The grass sports fields are also frequently cleared of leaves during this time.
Tips and concerns
I have many large trees in my own garden
If this is the case, please do not bring large quantities of leaves to the leaf boxes with cars, tractors or carts. You can deliver your leaves to the environmental park in Roggel. You can bring 2 m3 per week free of charge. For information and opening hours visit www.rdmaasland.nl. Make sure to bring your valid RD Maasland waste card.
Consult location of leaf boxes and leaf vacuum routes
On our website, you can view drawings showing the locations of the 2025 leaf pile and leaf vacuum routes. These drawings can be found (by core) at the bottom of this block, under the heading Leafpile and sweeping routes.

- Symbol with leaf: indicates location of leaf boxes
- Symbol with square: indicates large leaf location with crowd barriers
- Blue lines: indicate the routes of the external leaf vacuum cleaner
Time leaf vacuum / sweeper
We cannot announce in advance when the leaf vacuum or sweeper truck will come by. This strongly depends on weather conditions (early or late frost, temperature, strong wind/storm, technical failure, tipping moments). What we try to do is to respond to leaf drop peaks in a timely and efficient manner.
Leaf and fruit waste
Leaf and fruit fall are part of a natural process and are part of autumn. It may cause some inconvenience, but do not see it as a nuisance. Leaves in the garden also offer protection to plants, for example against night frost. They are also an important source of food for birds during the winter period. There are many insects in the layer of fallen leaves.
Additional green waste delivery facility Baexem
The green waste delivery facility in Baexem is open from March 15th to November.
More information
We try to reduce leaf litter nuisance as much as possible. The infographic below shows at a glance, what we do.

In hard-to-reach places, leaf will be blown up the roadway with leaf blowers, so that the leaves can be taken away by the leaf vacuum cleaner. Look for more routes per core at www.leudal.nl/bladafval."
Below we see a full-width picture of a gray winding road, with 11 trees and a few shrubs that have different leaves in fall colors (yellow, red, green, pink and orange). On the road is a yellow leaf vacuum truck.
Below the road is the following black text on a white background.

The house has a gray front door on the right side and two windows on the left side, the left half of which is colored gray and the right half light blue. In front of the house, walking on the road, a woman with long blue-gray hair, a dark blue sweater with an orange vest, purple pants and light blue shoes playfully tosses autumn leaves from an oak tree into the air.
To the right of the house, between the two gray roads, you will see an orange area containing the black text, "The bike paths in the forest are cleaned regularly to avoid unsafe situations. The cleaning is done by our own field staff. But sometimes a tractor with a leaf blower is hired. This blows the cycle paths clean. But RD-Maasland also sweeps the bike paths regularly."
Below the road, in the center of the page, is a yellow text area containing the black text, "RD Maasland sweeps as many streets as possible during the leaf season where there are municipal trees and that are not zoned for leaf vacuum."
