Residents' meeting on bicycle connection and maintenance of Leudalweg
On December 16, residents of Leudalweg in Neer were Neer about plans for new bicycle facilities and maintenance of their street. The meeting took place at the D'n Haammaeker community center. While enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, residents listened to the explanation and engaged in conversation with the municipality.

Why these plans?
The plans stem from the coalition agreement 'Fietspad Leudalweg' (Leudalweg cycle path). This cycle path is located between Roggel and Neer. The Leudalweg is also in need of maintenance. That is why these works are being combined. In addition to a new cycle path and replacing the road, we are also looking at improving drainage in the public area.
Explanation of the preliminary design
During the meeting, project leader John Janssen explained:
- the reason for the project
- the required procedure (BOPA)
- the preliminary design
- the overall planning
A previous integration study has identified a preferred option:
- a separate two-way bicycle path on the north side of the road
- bike lanes between the municipal boundaries of Neer Kinkhoven, and between Ophoven and Roggelseweg
- speed reduction measures within and outside built-up areas
- smart and sustainable lighting along the route
What happens next?
This plan still requires land purchases and an application for a Buitenplanse Omgevingsplanactiviteit (BOPA, or Special Environmental Plan Activity). This application applies to the entire project. If all procedures go well, the starting point is to begin work in the third or fourth quarter of next year (2026).
Contribution from residents
Approximately 50 residents attended the meeting. They listened attentively and also asked critical questions. After the presentation, residents visited the information boards and engaged in conversation with the municipality and experts from the Kragten consultancy firm. Topics discussed included:
- parking
- accessibility
- speed
- raised platforms
- street lighting
What happens to the responses?
All questions and comments have been collected. These will be taken into account when drawing up the final design. Residents will receive a substantive response to this. If necessary, separate discussions with residents will also follow.
Working together to make Leudalweg safe
The municipality of Leudal is supervising this project together with consultancy firm Kragten, which is further developing the design and the BOPA. By working together with residents, we are ensuring a sustainable, safe, and pleasant public space on and around Leudalweg.
