Architect selected for new Sint Ursula building in Horn
The new construction of Sint Ursula in Horn has reached an important next step. BDG Architects has been selected to design the new school.

In the coming period, the agency will be working on the initial draft design for a modern and sustainable school at the current location. With this new building, the municipality of Leudal and Stichting Onderwijs Midden-Limburg (Central Limburg Education Foundation) are investing in future-proof education for Horn and the region.
During the selection process, five architectural firms presented their vision for the new school. Images were also created to give an impression of what the building might look like. An image by BDG Architects is now being shared as a first impression. It shows the direction the design could take and how the building could fit into the green surroundings of Horn. It is important to emphasize that this is not yet a final design. The architect will be working on the preliminary design in the coming period.
Modern and healthy learning environment
A number of important principles are central to the design of the new school. For example, the building must offer a modern learning environment that is suited to education today and in the future. The focus is also on creating a sustainable and healthy school. This includes good air quality in line with the 'Fresh Schools' concept and attention to energy consumption and sustainability. Ank Wijnands, director of Sint Ursula, is pleased with the next step in the process:
With the new Sint Ursula building, we are investing in high-quality, future-proof education for our students. A modern and healthy learning environment helps students and staff to develop to their full potential. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners on this beautiful new school.
Next step: elaboration of the design
There is currently a short legal period during which the other architects can object to the award. Once this period has ended (March 15, 2026), the contract with BDG Architects will be signed. The architect will then start work on the preliminary design. During this phase, the building will be further developed and issues such as the layout of the site and its connection to the surrounding area will also be considered.
Local residents are involved
The new Sint Ursula building will also have an impact on the immediate surroundings. That is why the school and the municipality believe it is important to keep local residents well informed and involved. Once the initial draft design is ready, a meeting will be organized for local residents and other stakeholders. During this meeting, the design will be explained and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and contribute ideas.
Important for Horn and the region
According to Alderman den Teuling, the new Sint Ursula building is of great value to Horn and the region.
Good education is important for our young people. With a new and modern school building, we are ensuring that secondary education remains available in Horn, Leudal, and the surrounding region. A secondary school also contributes to an attractive living environment for our residents.
Towards a school for the future
In the coming period, the project team will continue to work with the architect on the design of the new school. As soon as more details about the preliminary design and further planning are available, local residents and other stakeholders will be informed again.
